The entire members of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chaplaincy, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, were so happy to welcome his Lordship, Most Rev. Michael Kalu Ukpong to their chaplaincy for his maiden Pastoral Visit on Sunday 27th July, 2025. Eighteen candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation during the Eucharistic celebration.
In his sermon his lordship encouraged the chaplaincy faithful to remain steadfast on the way of righteousness and to avoid the way of life that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah lived. He encouraged the young students always to dress decently when they come before the Lord. "There should be a difference between how people dress while going to worship God and those that are going for a party(Disco).
The Pastoral visit had in attendace both the church members and the University management. Comrade Fidelis Edeh ( Pro Chancellor), Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe ( Vice Chancellor), Prof. Ursula Akanwa (DVC Administration), Mrs Nkeiruka Mbanasor (Registrar), Mr. Ugochukwu Ironkwe (Bursar), Dr. Isaac Ogbonna (Librerian) and host of other dignitires where present.
The chaplain Rev. Fr. Dr. Leonard Ehiemere welcomed his Lordship, the invited guests and all members of the chaplaincy, thanking the Lord who made the day a reality. Prof. Damian Asawalam in his address expressed the tremendous growth of the chaplaincy since inception and also asked his Lordship always to come around as a Father to encouraged the faithful in their journey of faith.
After the Eucharistic celebration, there were interactive session between his Lordship and the chaplaincy members, followed by choir rendition, cultural dance and Men of Order (MOD) band parade.
