Homilies & Reflections

One thing I ask of the Lord. This I long to dwell in the house of the Lord,
all the days of my life.

2026-07-16 - The secret of inner peace in a troubled world Author: Fr. Camilus Nwaigwe

Thursday in the Fifteenth Week of the Ordinary Time, Year II
_Isa 26:7-9,12,16-19_
_Mt 11:28-30_

Our world is full of anxiety. Many people worry about the rising cost of living, insecurity, unemployment, family conflicts, sickness, and an uncertain future. Even those who appear successful often struggle to find peace within. Today's readings reveal that true peace is not found in wealth, power, or comfort, but in a living relationship with God.

In the first reading, Isaiah declares, "The way of the just is smooth... My soul yearns for you in the night" (Isa. 26:7-9). The prophet teaches that those who trust in God experience a peace that circumstances cannot destroy. Even in suffering, they continue to hope because God is their strength.

In the Gospel, Jesus extends one of the most comforting invitations in Scripture: "Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest" (Mt. 11:28). He does not promise a life free from problems, but He promises rest for the soul. The world's peace depends on everything going well; Christ's peace remains even when life is difficult.

Many people today carry burdens they never share with anyone, financial struggles, broken relationships, grief, fear of the future, guilt, or disappointment. Jesus invites us to place these burdens on Him. He reminds us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light because He walks with us.

The secret of inner peace is simple: seek God daily, trust Him completely, and surrender every burden to Him. When Christ fills the heart, no storm can steal the peace He gives.

Also, you must feed your faith, not your fears. The more we focus on our worries, the more anxious we become. But the more we seek God in prayer and trust Him, the more we experience His peace.

Walk with Christ, live in peace. Jesus does not promise a life without problems; He promises His presence. When we walk with Him, we find peace even in the midst of life's storms.

Remember, the heart that rests in Christ remains peaceful even when the world around it is troubled.

God bless you.
